How To Set Up a Dial Up Connection in Windows 95/98/ME

NOTE: You may need your Windows9x/ME CD-ROM for this unless the .CAB files are installed on your Hard Disk. (This is in the event that Dial Up Networking is not already installed on your system. This is not covered below as windows will simply prompt you through that installation and then continue with the set up wizard)

1. Click on "Start" and then "Run"

2. In the "Open" box, type in "intewiz" (without quotes as shown in Figure 2)

3. The Internet Connection Wizard will appear, prompting you to begin setting up an Internet connection. After ensuring that there is a dot beside "Connect using my phone line," click "Next."

 4. Fill in the Telephone number of the associated area your will dialing to. Ensure that the "Dial using the area code and country code" button is unchecked and then click "Next."

5. Enter your username (this is the same as your primary email address) and password into the appropriate boxes as shown in Figure 5. Click "Next."

 6. Enter "Linkdata" as the Connection Name and click "Next."

7. If you wish to set up Outlook Express as your email client (recommended if you don't already have a program that checks email for you), click "Yes" and then click "Next" to continue the setup process.

If you don't wish to use Outlook Express as your email client, click "No," and then click "Next" and then "Finish." You are done.

8. Enter the name you wish to appear when other people receive your e-mail.

9. Enter your e-mail address.

10. Enter the mail servers into the appropriate areas. Most individuals set up Outlook Express up to check an @linkd.net email address and thus, the settings will be exactly as shown in Figure 10. The server names for both @linkd.net and @symphonytel.com addresses are printed below:

For @linkd.net addresses:
Incoming mail (POP3) server: pop.linkd.net
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.linkd.net

For @symphonytel.com addresses:
Incoming mail (POP3) server: pop.symphonytel.com
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.symphonytel.com

Click "Next" after entering the server names in Figure 10.

11. Enter the username (the beginning portion of your email address, before the @ sign) and password, then click "Next."

12. Click "Finish".  You are Done!
